The 2023 UFO Hearing in the US Congress
A former intelligence officer told the US Congress, under oath, that the government has recovered "non-human" craft. Here is what was actually proven.
The story
On 26 July 2023, a subcommittee of the US House Oversight Committee held a public hearing on unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), the official term for UFOs.
Three witnesses testified under oath: former intelligence officer David Grusch, and former US Navy pilots Ryan Graves and David Fravor.
Grusch said the United States runs a decades-long programme to recover crashed craft of non-human origin. He said his claims came from interviews with people with direct knowledge, and that he could share more details only in a classified setting.
The pilots described objects they or their colleagues had encountered that, they said, moved in ways they could not explain.
The evidence chain
- The hearing took place and the testimony is on the public record.
- No physical evidence, documents or images proving non-human craft were presented in public.
- The US Department of Defense denied that such a recovery programme exists.
- In March 2024 the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) published a historical report. It found no verifiable evidence that any UAP sighting represented extraterrestrial technology.
Verdict
UNPROVENClaims were made, but no public evidence supports them.
It is a fact that these claims were made under oath before Congress. The claims themselves have not been backed by public evidence, and the official investigation found none.
